WittPenn Steel
The WittPenn Bridge over the Hackensack River was built in 1927-1930. The 169 foot long vertical lift bridge with 140’ tall towers is a National Register-eligible historic steel structure. NJDOT Steel Maintenance contracts and awarded projects have called upon IEW Construction Group to work on key elements of maintenance and repairs such as cable inspections and structural steel repair and reinforcement throughout the years. A recent project required installing a jacking system to support the counterweights so that IEW could remove the ropes and replace the sheaves utilizing a large barge crane. NJDOT scheduled a 60 day outage of the lift span in order to accommodate the construction. IEW Construction Group completed the work within the tight time frame.
