Lawrenceville Route 1 Pedestrian Bridge
The Delaware & Raritan Canal is a historic transportation corridor passing through Mercer County, New Jersey. It is frequently used by bicyclists, runners, canoeists and bird watchers. A major obstacle for pedestrians was the passage of the canal under Route 1 in Lawrence Township. In a joint effort by the New Jersey Departments of Environmental Protection and Transportation, IEW Construction Group was awarded a contract for the construction of a pedestrian bridge over Route 1 providing connectivity for canal path users. The bridge superstructure was assembled by IEW forces and erected overnight in a single lift to avoid disruption of traffic on this extremely heavily traveled roadway.
